The National Department of Planning- DNP- has as its basic objectives the preparation, monitoring and evaluation of policies, general plans, programs and projects of the public sector.
The DNP is charged with the long-term monitoring of the national and international economies, as well as proposing plans and programs for the economic, social and environmental development of the country.
Additionally, together with the National Council on Social and Political Economy- CONPES, the Department constitutes the conduit through which the President of the Republic exercises his function as the supreme director of national planning.
