The National Planning Department (DNP) is an administrative department that belongs to the Executive Branch of government and is directly answerable to the office of the president of the republic.
Administrative departments are entitities of a technical character charged with directing and co-ordinating services, as well as providing the government with sufficient information to make decisions. They have the same status as ministries, but cannot directly introduce legislation.
The DNP is primarily a technical entity that seeks to foster the creation of a strategic vision for the country in the domains of society, economy and environment. It does this by means of crafting, orienting and evaluating Colombian public policy, as well as managing and disbursing public investment and cementing all of the above through plans, programs and projects of the government.
